Taking the time to reconnect with your self through Chakra meditation can, and it will, bring about positive transformations in your self-esteem, persona, attitude and well-being. Meditation can be integrated into your life on many different levels, ranging from an occasional practice of only five minutes a day to something that constitutes a major cornerstone of your spirituality. Of course, your level of involvement and outlook on this practice is directly related with the amount of success you will achieve.
There are many different ways to meditate. What works for one individual may be somewhat distressful for another, depending on your personal past experiences, as well as spiritual and psychological beliefs.
Some people find it highly comforting and relaxing to have an internal mantra to focus on during meditation. This involves mental repetition of a word, phrase, or sentence of affirmation (e.g. Shantee, or peace; or sentences such as "The world is open and receptive to my true nature" or "I am able to love and be loved by all people … "). You may even wish to repeat your mantra during the day, especially during times of frustration, sadness or when feeling disconnected from others. Choosing your own personal mantra is dependent upon what particular aspect of your Chakra system you choose to work on with focused intent.
The seven Chakras of the Ayurvedic system of healing are metaphysical energy channels starting at the base of your spine, the Root Chakra, and moving up your back, finally culminating with the Crown Chakra at the top of your head. You can visualize this system as a continuum of energy flowing gracefully up the spine. Each Chakra has it's own specific function and association with body parts, senses, colors, dysfunction, archetypes, as well as astrological associations elements, gemstones, incenses, etc. A main goal of Chakra meditation, Yoga, and many other Eastern practices, is to create a balance within your energy system. It is necessary to first realize your own blockages and deficiencies (as well as abundance) before you can balance them within your system.
One way to recognize what particular aspect of your Chakra system needs assistance is through introspective meditation. This is achieved by looking deep within yourself, in an unbiased manner, to recognize and analyze your faults. (Those who suffer form diagnosable mental disorders, or who are highly uncomfortable with the study of self, may wish to attain psychological assistance in sorting out your problematic patterns.)
Regardless of what type of meditation you perform, or how involved you become with your own practice, there are a few simple guidelines that should be followed:
- Do not meditate immediately after eating (especially if your meditation posture of preference is lying on your back).
- Create a quiet comfortable space to practice in (you may wish to burn incense, light candles, or listen to soothing music).
- Choose a leisurely and relaxed time to meditate.
