Essential Oil Travel Kit

Travel is supposed to be one of life's little pleasures, but if you have ever experienced motion sickness from the car or airplane, traveling is no pleasure. The healing art of aromatherapy may be your catalyst for achieving an enjoyable ride rather than gritting your teeth and holding your stomach as you count the moments until you arrive at your destination.

Just remember, travel is supposed to be fun and relaxing, but sometimes you body has other ideas about that. These simple tips can make getting to your destination that much more pleasant.

Peppermint oil has a marvelously calming effect on the stomach and is clearly an essential oil for the uneasy traveler. It is very strong, so use just one drop per cup of water with a little sugar or honey for a sweetener. Sip slowly before leaving for your journey.

Another excellent travel oil is ginger, which is well known for alleviating seasickness, and is just as good for other types of travel sickness. Two drops of ginger oil inhaled from a handkerchief works very well.

Midsummer traffic jams often make driving hot and frustrating, but both passenger and driver can be kept cool and calm with one drop of lavender, eucalyptus or peppermint oil on one or two cotton balls placed in the rear dash of the car. These oils help soothe the nerves, keeping them from fraying. They won't make the driver sleepy but will keep him on an even keel, relaxed but aware. Exhaust fumes can also cause nausea, so roll up the window and put a drop of eucalyptus oil on few tissues and place them around the car.

Nowadays the majority of people fly to their destination. This type of transport causes many problems of its own. If you suffer from stomach upset, try drinking a cup of peppermint tea before you leave the house. If flying makes you anxious, have one drop of lavender and one drop of geranium oil on several cotton balls and place in a plastic bag to inhale when needed during the flight. Children on long flights can get fidgety and irritable, which can make your journey as uncomfortable as theirs. Have ready a small bottle with 15 drops of chamomile oil in 2 tablespoons of a light nut or vegetable oil. When things start to get out of control, twist the child around on the seat so you can massage his legs and feet with the oil, tuck him in and he'll soon settle down. You only have to use a very small portion, but it will come in handy for other travel problems.

One more good combination of travel oil is peppermint and geranium oil, this works great for the people returning home from their wonderful vacations. People spend the entire week long holiday getting totally relaxed, find out that it comes to an abrupt end when they arrive back at their desks with a Monday morning feeling, but much worse. Take a couple of drops of peppermint and geranium oil on a tissue, and place them around your desk, or even put a few drops on a cotton ball and place in a plastic bag to inhale when needed. Welcome back!
