There's new hope though for adult and adolescent sufferers. The FDA has approved a new drug therapy now available by prescription called Derma-Smoothe/FS Atopic Pak. This treatment can be used on adults and children as young as six.
The new therapy uses a hydrating peanut oil as a delivery vehicle that allows the sufferer to spread a lower dose of anti-inflammatory corticosteroids on skin. This approach results in fewer side effects and overall better coverage. Once the disease is under control, the oil can be used without the steroid to keep the skin hydrated and the eczema in remission. Physicians are hopeful that at the least the treatment will help patients avoid outbreaks of eczema. Check with your doctor and/or dermatologist for further information on Derma-Smoothe/FS Atopic Pak.
